Learn more about working with students from an immigrant background!
In this lively, interactive course we will cover:
• Refugee & Immigrant 101 – How do refugees & immigrants arrive in the US? What is it like to be forced to leave your homeland?
• Trauma – How does trauma interfere with learning? Which methods foster resiliency?
• Multilingual Learners -- How does it feel to enter a classroom in a strange language, in a strange land? How can educators make learning accessible for new American students?
Guest speakers include:
• Sam Bisoka, Boise Schools graduate & former refugee from the Congo/Botswana
• Deb Ryman, LCSW, Trauma Therapist working with refugee youth
• Laura Armstrong, Co-Director, Glocal Community Partners
We will model concrete instructional strategies and
practice ways to reduce stress and trauma-related behaviors.
